Providing literacy and essential skills programs

The Estevan Area Literacy Group Inc. (EALG) is a
not-for-profit organization formed in 2007. There are  board members who guide the organization.

As a registered charity, the EALG focuses on programs for  English as a Second Language, and family and early childhood literacy.

The organization is developing programs related to workplace, adult, and aboriginal literacy.

HELLO LITERACY!!

What we Offer:


Reading Clubs

Are offered to children from grades 1-8. These are offered in the schools or virtually.  Our programs offer story reading and the children get involved in group discussions, activities, crafts and physical Activities.

Break Fun

This is offered to Children ages 4-12 during school breaks and over the holidays. (Easter and Christmas).  With themed events we engage children with reading, arithmetic, science, history, crafts and physical activities.


Family Language Circle

Learn English with your child and interact with other families.  The Family Language Circle focus' on parent and children to build and practice their English language skills together.  

Learn and Soar 
These programs are designed for parents and their children between 3-5 years of age.  We focus on essential skills , learning shapes, numbers and letters as well as socializing and sharing.  We read books, have discussions, crafts and sing a longs.

Nature Smarts Summer Program

Nature Smarts is a fun, educational theme based summer program.  It is very popular.  It is held for seven weeks from July to August.  Activities are indoors and outdoors.  We provide different literacy experiences.  Each week which consists of story time, artistic exploration activities, STEM activities and social/emotional activities.


Battle of the Books

In partnerships with local schools, it is a program that encourages students to read and promote social and emotional interactions and practice their reading.  It is one of our most popular and successful programs.  It begins in January.  Students form teams and read a collection of books.  In March, a competition is held at last years winning school, where students answer comprehensive questions about the books.  The winning team then receives their name on a trophy.
